Solar Panel Compatibility: Specs
When selecting a solar panel for your power station, there are three key specs to keep in mind: voltage range, current (amps), and connector type. These factors ensure your solar panel works safely and efficiently with your power station.
Below, we’ve broken down the specs for each RIVER model to help you make the right choice.
Power Station | Solar Input Watts Max | Solar Input Volts Min | Solar Input Volts Max | Solar Input Amps | Solar Input Connector |
RIVER 3 Max | 220 | 11 | 55 | 13 | XT60i / XT60 |
RIVER 3 Plus | 220 | 11 | 55 | 13 | XT60i / XT60 |
RIVER 3 | 110 | 11 | 30 | 8 | XT60i / XT60 |
RIVER 2 Pro | 220 | 11 | 50 | 13 | XT60i / XT60 |
RIVER 2 Max | 220 | 11 | 50 | 13 | XT60i / XT60 |
RIVER 2 | 110 | 11 | 30 | 8 | XT60i / XT60 |
Note: Always double-check your power station specs before using a solar panel to ensure compatibility and optimal performance. The specifications listed here are based on publicly available information from the EcoFlow Support center but it is subject to change.
XT60 vs XT60i Difference
One common question we get is about the difference between XT60 and XT60i. Many of the models say they need the XT60i. But in reality, they can typically use either one.
The XT60 should always allow full charging speeds for solar panels connected to most power stations.
The point of the XT60i is to allow for higher charging rates above 8A with other DC charging sources. It does not apply to solar panels.
Recommended Solar Panels for RIVER Series
To make your search easier, we’ve handpicked solar panels that are perfectly compatible with the EcoFlow RIVER series. These panels are designed to work within the voltage and current ranges of these small power stations, ensuring optimal performance and safety.
1. ALLPOWERS 100W Portable Solar Panel
Why It’s Great: This is an ultra-portable folding solar panel with highly efficient (22%) solar cells. It’s priced much lower than alternatives but still offers great performance and high-quality construction.
Perfect For: Capable of generating ~400Wh in a day of direct sunlight, great for RIVER 3, RIVER 3 Plus, RIVER 2, and RIVER 2 Max.
Specs: Voltage and current are well within all RIVER power station limits (Voc = 22.4V and Isc = 6.0A).
Using Two: Use two of these 100W panels in series (no extra adapter needed) with the RIVER models.
Connectors: This panel features MC4 connectors. It includes some 8mm adapters, but you'll need the MC4 to XT60i adapter cable.
2. ALLPOWERS 200W Foldable Solar Panel
Why It’s Great: Another highly-portable folding solar panel with double the output power, also featuring high-quality solar cells reaching 24% efficiency.
Perfect For: RIVER 3 Plus and RIVER 3 Max (at 40°F / 5°C or warmer).
Specs: Voltage is too high for smaller RIVER power stations, like the RIVER 2 and RIVER 3. But it's fine for the larger ones (Voc = 50.6V and Isc = 5.9A).
Using Two: No reason to use two with any RIVER power station as it will fully maximize charging already.
Connectors: This panel features MC4 connectors. It includes some 8mm adapters, but you'll need the MC4 to XT60i adapter cable.
3. DOKIO 100W Foldable Solar Panel
Why It’s Great: More durable and longer-lasting foldable solar panel that uses rigid panels. Slightly thicker and heavier, but will last years longer than typical portable panels with thin solar panels. Includes XT60 connection.
Perfect For: Capable of generating ~400Wh in a day of direct sunlight, great for RIVER 3, RIVER 3 Plus, RIVER 2, and RIVER 2 Max.
Specs: Voltage are current are well within all RIVER power station limits (Voc = 21.6V and Isc = 5.81A).
Using Two: Use two of these 100W panels in series (no extra adapter needed) with the EcoFlow RIVER 3 Plus, RIVER 3 Max, RIVER 2 Pro, and RIVER 2 Max.
Connections: Includes XT60 output directly from panels. This is typically suitable for all power stations, even if they call for XT60i.
Recommended Solar Accessories
You might need something else to make your solar setup work perfectly. Here are some accessories that pair well with your power station and solar panels:
MC4 to XT60 Adapter Cable
Many power stations use XT60 or XT60i connections. If you choose to buy a panel that does NOT have this connection, you’ll need an adapter cable.
Solar Extension Cables
Need more flexibility in panel placement? These extension cables let you position your solar panels farther away from your power station. Set your panels in full sun while keeping your power station and the devices it’s connected to in the shade.
You can use MC4 or XT60 extension cables, depending on your setup.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use any solar panel with my power stations?
As long as you meet the specs and connection type, you can use any solar panel with almost any power station. Always check the voltage range, current, and connector type to ensure safe and efficient operation.
What happens if I exceed the voltage or current limits?
Exceeding the limits can damage your power station. Stick to the recommended specs for your specific portable power station model. You should NEVER exceed the input’s maximum voltage.
Do I need an adapter for my solar panel?
If your solar panel doesn’t have an XT60 connector, you’ll need an adapter cable. We recommend MC4 to XT60 Adapter Cable for seamless compatibility. In some cases, you might need the MC4 to XT60i cable instead.
Can I use a solar extension cable for my RIVER?
Yes, we recommend using an extension cable to keep your power station in the shade and get maximum light exposure on your solar panel(s). We offer an XT60 extension cable that makes things easy. Or you can use an MC4 extension with an MC4-to-XT60 Adapter Cable.
